What Happened Yesterday?
We still ask what happened yesterday. I do not think that Her Excellency Judge Birtukan is desperate or eager for any power at this time. I think some have wrongly assumed she is. She is in my opinion doing her best and trying hard to save the names of the leaders unjustly implicated and the good name of her old party (Kestedemena) to which there is reference to the old name after it had completely become baptized and given a new good name Kinijit. That thinking revived in the minds of few, thanks to the wise scholar, Dr. Berhanu Nega! Judge Birtukan might have realized that she had contributed to the present problems of KINIJIT whether or not she and the other Delegates had collectively and consciously decided to take actions in the manner they did realizing now that the Ethiopian people are regretting it, or they were dragged into it reluctantly by other force. We shall find out more and the truth, but so far, indication is that the culprit is the one who is staying and straying far away from the main body.
United KINIJIT Lasting and Inevitable
No question that they will be one or two eviction and or political reprimand against the ring leaders or leader. But, there shall be no break for Kestedemena from the rest. Prof. Mesfin will not allow it. He should suppress the spoilers and make up for the damages they caused to the leadership of Kinijit. Kestedemena is not a big party and cannot survive in the present congested political field by itself like some of the other parties such EPRP and EDPA have. If Kestedemena splits, the followers and leaders will end up in the doors of TPLF/EPRDF and they will be headache to TPLF rather than helping it. They will not serve any other party. For these and other reasons, the split is inconceivable and it will never happen. The Five Delegates will learn hard lessons; but a few may face a fatal end to their political career.
Who Should Fight for Democracy?
The struggle against the Dictators must come from the people and the people must stand up and fight regardless of the brutality they face. The people are fighting and doing their best amid killings and brutality. The political leaders and the Ethiopians in the Diaspora have followed the peoples’ lead and are acting on their behalf to voice their plights to the World including to those powers that had put the dictators on power. To counter the political actions of the Ethiopians in Diaspora, the Dictators have hired unknown number of First Class Lobbyists and used many groups that have symbiotic relationship of economic and political interests with them to attain political support that they need to stay in power. They have used every available source of influences from leaders and powerful figures in the American and European political institutions.
Recruited Cadres/Banda to Foil KINIJIT
The one time vast camps of TPLF / EPRDF that is now rapidly shrinking have recruited and used many known and unknown characters to counter the political actions of the Ethiopians in the Diaspora. The use of these rather anomalous characters with weak backbone and unimpressive backgrounds have to some extent effectively sabotaged, obstructed and confused the political actions and activities of the Ethiopian communities. Some saboteurs have been imported; others were hired from among the political activists of the Ethiopian communities in every city. To cover their overt activities, the modern Banda appear to be very vocal and anti-TPLF/EPRDF, but one can hardly miss them. They are easy to identify, and their missions are easily noticeable because they go the opposite in every action decided. Their immediate goal was always to take over power what ever it was either by breaking apart the existing organized political groups, or forming a new one. They frequently attack and antagonize prominent and visible political personalities and figures in the community. They act as though they are well informed politicians, but they are hoax. Their main mission and employment is to dismantle the political party that happened to be KINIJIT, the number one enemy and the major threat to TPLF, and so, the main target of Meles to kill. These cadres and Banda have emerged in every city and are embedded in the Ethiopian political communities. Six Cadres / Banda with bad names are identified in Seattle. You identify and count yours!
The Fall of the Tiny Empire and Its Builders!
Those who had dangerous lust for power such as Dr. Berhanu Nega (others mistakenly include Her Excellency Judge Birtukan Mideksa) and the spineless architects of his empire building scheme such as Ato Adargachew Tsige and Ato Berhane Mewa had become quick victims of their own egos, and the dubious trapping schemes of TPLF . That is what happened to them whether or not they knew it. But, they must realize now what happened to them and to their empire building project. TPLF has proved to be smarter than them. Meles was not going to pave the road for them to the thrown by helping them and having them destroyed Kinijit of Chairman Hailu Shawl!
Know the Power that Helps Remove Dictators
There is a belief that President Bush may change his view towards Ethiopia if Ethiopians appeal to him. That is a mistaken hope. No person can easily change the political position of a President. Thinking and hoping so comes from not knowing how policy is made in the White House or for the White House. We must know that the President is prone to influence from one source. That source is supposed to be and super powerful and the influence of the Ethiopian community is nil The best political change the Ethiopian communities can achieve would be through Congress. Congress is subject to multiple sources of political pressures and influences, and these pressures affect existing polices, which eventually manifest in the policy of the White House. Unlike the President, members of Congress are therefore prone to community pressures specifically to the voices of their constituents. We are better of using our precious resources pursuing changes through Congress rather than through the White House.
