London, 6 June
2008
The London
public meeting called at the Priory Community Centre to promote Genbot 7 party
to promote Genbot 7 party by Dr. Berhanu Nega has been cancelled. The
organizers of the meeting calling themselves KSO UK (Kinijit Support Organization
in the United Kingdom) had to cancel the meeting under pressure of the huge
mobilization in London to protest
against the political intrigue concocted using the name KINIJIT and KINIJIT
SUPPORT ORGANISATION IN THE UK.
The faction had been embedded itself within the Coordinating
Committee of Kinijit Support in the UK for a long time and has been
weakening the support organisation by its factional actions.
It has to be known that Kinijit Support in the UK has
no mandate to organize a meeting for the leadership of a different
organisation, GENBOT 7 in this case.
Despite the pretentious posturing, what was intended to be a launch of
GENBOT 7 in London, behind the thinly veiled
topic of ‘Future Political Direction in Ethiopia' has not been
successful.
Dr. Berhanu has taken a public position that the future
direction is to be along the program of GENBOT 7, with its core principle of
"comprehensive struggle". While Dr.
Berhanu and the supporters of GENBOT 7 should and ought to take responsibility
in what they do with their organization and promote its program on independent
platforms, it is simply unacceptable to use the name Kinijit and Kinijit
Support Organization in the UK
to advance such ideals in the disguised way they attempted to do in London. We appeal to all
supporters of Kinijt's ideals in Europe to
oppose similar moves planned by Dr Berhanu and his supporters.
The faction in London
that is posturing as Kinijit Support is going along a collusion course against
the wider membership in more ways than what has been mentioned above.
·
It unseated the elected Chairman and Secretary
in a secrete meeting that is unconstitutional.
Any meeting of the Support Organization has to be chaired by the elected
chairman but this factional group has been conducting meetings without the
knowledge of the elected Chairman.
- The
factional group has raided the office of Kinijit Support in London and removed
all documents without the knowledge of the elected secretary, who has full
responsibility of the office.
- The
same group has misled the bank of the Support Organization to change the
main signatories of the bank account by others not elected by the General
meeting of the organization.
The campaign to stop these illegal and unconstitutional
actions by the factional group has now started.
As a starting measure, their attempt to launch GENBOT 7 under the cover
of Kinijit has been thwarted. The campaign continues until all
responsibilities and assets of Kinijit Support are returned to the elected
officials or Kinijit itself.
Intimidation or physical violence of the kind they tried in one of their
meetings against members that questioned the way they were handling matters in
the name of Kinijit and Kinijit Support
in London will have no place. We shall
use all avenues available including legal means to reassert Kinijit Support in
the United Kingdom.
All members of Kinijit's Support in the UK that have come
together to challenge the "undercover" launch of GENBOT 7 in London are very
grateful to all individuals and organizations in London and elsewhere that have
collaborated with our effort. Any alternative move by the group to revive the
cancelled meeting should be exposed condemned by all.
Kinijit Supporters in the United Kingdom that worked on the
campaign against the public meeting are indebted to all websites that posted
notices of our campaign. Our special
acknowledgements go to the websites Ethiolion,
Debeteraw and Maheder. The campaign
group also greatly appreciate the contribution of articles and comments in developing the debate on the way the name
of Kinijit has been abused not only by the regime in Addis Ababa but also by groups claming to be
in the camp of the opposition. We
deplore all those that have tried to undermine our actions without trying to
understand why we did what we did.
We would like to call upon all Kinijit Supporters in the UK to join us in the campaign we are waging to
resurrect and reclaim Kinijit Support in the UK to those who support the ideals
of Kinijit. In addition, we appeal to the
wider Diaspora community to continue exposing those who undermine the bitter
struggle of the Ethiopian people to bring about the end of the existing
repressive and anti-Ethiopia regime.
We strongly remind our adversaries to stop throwing mud at
Kinijit and its elected leaders in Ethiopia,
and desist from destabilizing its support organizations in London/UK and all
over Europe.
We are for a United Kinijit
Kinijit is for peace, democracy and Unity
