Recently I happened to see the map of Ethiopia that shows the administrative regions (Kililoch) of Ethiopia produced by the Meles regime based on ethnic lines. Reading Article 39 of the constitution with the map gave me a revelation that shocked me to say the least and wondered why people couldn't pick it up and point it to the authorities.

Had all the regions been at the edge of the country, as it was the case with Eritrea, one would understand but as it is clearly shown on the map some of the regions are in the middle. For example, if Amaharas exercise their "self determination" as stated in Article 39, what will happen to Tigray which is totally on the other side of the Amhara region? Is it going to be an island on the other side of another soverign state? If Oromia exercise its right enshrined in the Article 39 and decide to separate itself, and how can the southern regions continue to be Ethiopian? You can get the map and see for yourself all the impossible scenarios.

In my opinion, Article 39 is not only weird but a huge mockery to the intelligence of those who put it there. Ethiopia is not the only country in the world where there are variety of ethnic groups. If you see South Africa where I'm emailing this from, they have a number of ethnic groups but they don't have such a nonsense thing in their constitution. They believe in equality of all human beings and that is it.

God bless our country.
