Meles Zenawi Detonating His Ethnic Mines.
Unfavourable circumstances that had prevailed at a certain stage of the struggle for democracy, freedom and justice have paved the way for the EPLF and TPLF to hijack and convert it into an ethnic struggle. Ethnic mines are potent weapons they have deployed and are using against Ethiopia. These weapons are not new nor their inventions but improvised types of the ones used by the former colonial powers. The duo (EPLF-TPLF) have boasted of their 100 year assignment to us because they are confident that we will find it increasingly difficult to clear these ordnance from our country and get bogged down in inter communal violence.
One can not deny the fact that these ethnic mines have taken their tolls on Ethiopia and its citizens. Above all, Ethiopia has retrogressed and descended into a backward or primitive mode of ethnic or tribal dictatorship which is jeopardizing its very existence as a country. Meles Zenawi`s ideology of ethnic struggle is based on ethnicising or tribalising every issue the country has been facing or projecting them as ethnic ones.
The motto of Meles Zenawi is ethnicize everything and plant ethnic mines every where!. Thus,creating conflicts and disharmony among communities who have been intermingling and sharing common values for centuries, are the hallmarks of his ethnocratic rule. The weapons of his choice in this divide and conquer (rule) war he is waging against Ethiopia, are ethnic mines. Meles Zenawi began planting his ethnic mines in the north while in the bush and has been able to cover the whole country now. Ethnic mines are his most dreadful and lethal weapons and have claimed thousands of innocent Ethiopian lives in different parts of the country. It is now possible for Meles Zenawi to detonate his ethnic mines at any spot and time of his choice and cause deaths,destruction and injuries.
Meles Zenawi employs all the inhumane and ruthless methods he can master to maintain his grip on Ethiopia. Various reports show that the country has been experiencing unprecedented incidents of inter communal strife and violence which are resulting in loss of lives,destruction of property and displacements in the 18 years of Meles Zenawi`s rule. Their frequency has increased after the may 2005 elections in which Meles Zenawi has suffered a humiliating defeat. The recently reported deadly inter communal violence which broke out in the western part of our country shows the continued dangers the ethnic mines of Meles Zenawi pose to our communities and country. The recurring incidence of violence of this nature are harbingers and should bother us all. They are indicators of one development , i.e.the looming danger of civil war, which Meles Zenawi and his western backers are trying to cover up by churning out fictitious figures of economic growth and progress in the country.
The likely scenario Meles Zenawi and his western backers seem to have failed to realize is that the ethnic mines can disrupt their daily businesses and lives and be lethal to them too. It means that no body will enjoy a complete safety in the country unless the ethnic mines of Meles Zenawi are removed and defused. Ethiopia`s multifaceted diversity has been an important source of its strength and has played crucial roles in ensuring its continued existence as an independent and sovereign country. Diversity has proven its overriding advantage over homogeneity when it comes to ensuring the survival of entities which possess, manage and use it judiciously. When the world is moving in the direction of interdependence, prosperity and unity, it is abominable to witness a transgressive process of ethnic fragmentation and abysmal poverty in one of the word`s oldest civilizations, Ethiopia. The repugnant ethnic struggle of Meles Zenawi would want to rob us of this heritage and render us very vulnerable to his malicious intentions. Meles Zenawi or any evil minded person should not be allowed to use our own richness to bring about our own destruction. It is our valuable heritage and we should do our utmost to preserve and pass it on. Ethnic mines are also weapons of terror and Meles Zenawi is using them to terrorize the whole country and keep us submissive to his tyrannical rule. The current initiative to ban cluster bombs should also include ethnic bombs or mines which are paralyzing and terrorizing a country.
Our struggle for democracy, freedom and justice is also facing the daunting task of demining, defusing and removing the ethnic mines Meles Zenawi has been planting in our country. The best way of defusing MelesZenawi`s ethnic ordnance is to manage our own affairs wisely and resolve our differences amicably. Though referred to as ethnic mines, they are not selective or specific and will maim or kill every EEthiopian.
Until then all Ethiopians should be wary of the ethnic mines of Meles Zenawi planted in every part of the country. Meles Zenawi should be isolated and held accountable for his crimes against humanity by facing justice.
